Seattle Presbyterian Church
Washi (Japanese Paper) Craft Workshop by Yukiko Chikamura
Yukiko Chikamura is going to show you beautiful items you
can create with just milk cartons and pretty Washi paper.
During the workshop we will be making Hashi Oki (Chopstick
rests). It will be a perfect gift if you make a set of 5 or
6, or just make 2, the one for yourself and the other for
your significant other.
Please bring a pencil, ball-point pen, ruler (30 cm), and
scissors.
Yukiko is originally from Nagoya, Japan, and she moved to
Seattle 18 years ago. She is probably better known as a Japanese
cooking teacher as she has taught at Nikkei Horizon for the
last 15 years. Even though her formal education was in nutrition
and cooking, she has always had an interest in art and crafts.
Because of her love of crafts, she began using fabric from
old Japanese kimonos to make cushions, wall hangings, and
other items, and also using milk cartons and Japanese Washi
paper to produce various gift items which she sells at local
craft shows such as Ayamekai and Aki Matsuri.
